A Self Discovery Assignment for You…Yes You!

I just got back from Bend, Oregon which may just be one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places I’ve ever been to. Here’s what I saw when standing out on the terrace:

It’s easy to see how a view like this, complete with mountains, trees and a raging river would put someone in the perfect mental/emotional space to reflect, learn and grow.

I stayed at the beautiful Mt. Bachelor resort to meet with my coach along with other inspired speakers/entrepreneurs who want to bring their messages to the world in a big way. It’s always such a thrill for me to meet up with like-minded people who’ve found their unique gifts, talents, strengths and passions. I’m also always amazed to learn how these discoveries came about. Sometimes it was a tragedy or severe illness that closed one door and opened up another they never would have considered had that tragedy not occurred. Sometimes it’s a painful situation or circumstance that motivated them to try something new. Sometimes it’s the realization that they want more out of life and don’t want to settle or have any regrets. Sometimes it’s a burning desire to leave a legacy, reach for more or deepen their sense of joy and fulfillment in order to live a rich, satisfying and rewarding life. In any case, it’s so great to see so many people with specific gifts to share, impacting and benefiting all who need to hear what they have to say. So this brings me to a question for you. What’s your gift to bring to the world?

There’s something that you do. Yes you. Something that no one has to teach you how to do. Something that makes the time fly, your spirit soar, is effortless and completely rewarding. When you do this thing, it nurtures your soul, fuels your body and mind like a great meal with loved ones and a good night’s sleep. It’s what you’d do even if you didn’t get paid for it because it’s such a joy for you. When you do this thing, you’re at your best, almost as if something has taken over you and you can’t believe how calm, confident and how simple this is for you while others may struggle to do the same thing. You’re completely in your element, enjoying the process and you can’t believe how much fun you’re having. What is this thing you do? Please try to answer this question and then let me know! Better yet, let the world know!

We have so many roles. At any one time, you may be a mom, daughter, sister, spouse, partner, aunt, friend, coworker, neighbor, acquaintance, athlete, artist, student, etc. With so many roles, you may be paying more attention to one or two-say mom and co-worker, leaving the other roles unattended to. It’s when these roles get your attention too that we begin to see just how multi talented, incredible and how gifted we really are!

So, here’s your assignment-yes, I know you’re busy but it’s worth it. Take 10% away from any role you’re overdoing it in (if you’re a mom, chances are a huge percentage is dedicated to your mom role) and spread that 10% out to strengthen some of the other important roles you play. Pay attention to what happens and enjoy the process of strengthening other areas of your life. What will you discover? That’s part of the fun and I’d love to hear about it! Please comment and share!

Do You Think and Act Like an Olympian?

Since the Winter Olympics began I’ve been mesmerized by these world class athletes. It’s not only the incredible skills they possess that I’m in awe of but the sheer dedication to their sport, the intensity of their focus, the willingness to challenge themselves, the commitment to their rigorous training schedules, their ability to recover from a dissapointing performance as well as their ability to envision their dreams of achieving an Olympic medal manifest into reality that’s been so inspiring to watch.

When you take a closer look at the characteristics these athletes all share, it’s easy to see that these are the ingredients necessary for success-not just as an Olympian but for anything worth achieving in life. Wouldn’t these same qualities be necessary if you wanted to achieve success in losing weight, becoming fit, improving your relationships, beginning a new career or even just trying to change some old habits that weren’t working for you anymore? Think about it, if any of these Olympic atheles didn’t push themselves past their comfort zones, if they let their negative self talk take over or allow a setback to derail them we wouldn’t be watching them today.

Watching them has inspired me to take my training and my business to another level. If you’ve been reading the last few newsletters and posts, you already know (and may be sick of hearing about it already!) about my first upcoming half marathon (13.1 miles). Call me crazy but this experience inspired me to submit my application for the New York City Marathon (26.2 miles.) Participants run based on a lottery drawing so I entered and if I get chosen…let the training begin!

As far as business goes, things are “movin’ and shakin’ “ there too. I realized how much I missed connecting face to face with clients so I’ve been busy creating an exciting new live, face to face, group coaching program for Long Island, NYC women which will be rolled out this May (details coming soon).

What can you take away from the Olympic spirit and apply to your life so you can finally live the life you crave? Remember this-it’s not that anyone who’s achieved anything significant or spectacular has anything different from you. They’ve just tapped into their passion, envisioned a goal and choose to relentlessly pursue it until their dreams become reality.

What’s next for you? Leave a comment,  I’d love to read it!
